Accent Reduction
for speakers of Germanic Languages

This is the overview for my Accent Reduction and Pronunciation program for speakers of Germanic languages. English is a Germanic language and shares many features with Germanic languages such as a large inventory of vowels, use of reduced vowels, and a stress-timed rhythm. However Germanic speakers of English still have a distinct accent when speaking English.

German

German speakers of English often have a clipped pronunciation of closed syllables, lack of linking sounds, and certain missing vowel and rhotic sounds. Because of this, German speakers in my program will focus on sounds and linking mostly, with less emphasis on rhythm due to the two languages’ similarity in this regard.
